Solution Behavior of Amphiphilic Glycodendrimers with a Rod-Like Core.

چکیده
Glycodendrimers based on aromatic cores have an amphiphilic character and have been reported to generate supramolecuar assemblies in water. A new group of glycodendrimers with an aromatic rod-like core were recently described as potent antagonists of DC-SIGN-mediated viral infections. A full characterization of the aggregation properties of these materials is presented here. The results show that these compounds exist mostly as monomers in water solution, in dynamic equilibrium with small aggregates (dimers or trimers). Larger aggregates observed by dynamic light scattering and transmission Electron Microscopy for some of the dendrimers are found to be portions of materials not fully solubilized and can be removed either by optimizing the dissolution protocol or by centrifugation of the samples.

Complex micelles from the self-assembly of coil-rod-coil amphiphilic triblock copolymers in selective solvents
We report an extensive simulation study on the spontaneous formation of complex micelles from coilrod-coil amphiphilic triblock copolymers in dilute solution resulting from solvent selectivity. The amphiphilic molecule is built from one hydrophilic block on each side and a hydrophobic block in the middle. The rigidity of the rod block is introduced by adding a bond-bending potential of the angl...
متن کاملOnion-like glycodendrimersomes from sequence-defined Janus glycodendrimers and influence of architecture on reactivity to a lectin.
A library of eight amphiphilic Janus glycodendrimers (GDs) with d-mannose (Man) headgroups, a known routing signal for lectin-mediated transport processes, was constructed via an iterative modular methodology. Sequence-defined variations of the Janus GD modulate the surface density and sequence of Man after self-assembly into multilamellar glycodendrimersomes (GDSs). The spatial mode of Man pre...

A T-shaped aromatic amphiphilic molecule based on linear oligo(ethylene oxide) was synthesized. We suggest that its peculiar interfacial behavior at the air-water interface and the structure of the Langmuir-Blodgett monolayer are associated with its peculiar T-shape and competing steric and amphiphilic interactions at different surface pressures. At low surface pressure, uniform and smooth mono...
متن کاملMesoscale surface patterning of a laterally-grafted rod amphiphile: rings and fibers.
An aromatic amphiphilic molecule based on branched oligo(ethylene oxide) was synthesized. Evaporation-driven ring formation and Langmuir-Blodgett films are investigated by utilizing this rigid-flexible block molecule. The size of the rings is strongly dependent on the solvent evaporation rate and the concentration of the molecule. In case of fast evaporation, volcano-like rings are formed by ev...
متن کاملElectrostatic analysis of the charged surface in a solution via the finite element method: The Poisson-Boltzmann theory
Electrostatic potential as well as the local volume charge density are computed for a macromolecule by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) using the finite element method (FEM). As a verification, our numerical results for a one dimensional PBE, which corresponds to an infinite-length macromolecule, are compared with the existing analytical solution and good agreement is found. As a ma...
